Rhine Watches is pleased to offer this Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Reference 4100SA.

Released in 1977 and designed by Jacqueline Dimier, the reference 4100SA or ‘Royal Oak III’ was part of the expansion of the Royal Oak line succeeding the 5402 and 8638.

It was the first Royal Oak to be equipped with a centre seconds hand, and its aim was to win over a clientele that considered the 5402 (39 mm) to be too large, particularly in Italy, the United States and Asia. The 4100 set the standards with a diameter of 34.5 mm.

Right from its introduction, it was available in steel, yellow gold and two-tone versions. The majority of the models were equipped with Calibre 2123, but some of the later creations were powered by Calibre 2125 and others by Calibre 2124. From 1982 onwards, at least 96 watches had their mechanical calibre replaced by quartz Calibre 2506, which was originally fitted in at least 36 watches.

This 1980 example features the iconic grey Petite Tapisserie dial, complete with an applied AP logo and crisp white text. The distinctive “bathtub” tritium hour markers are elegantly set in 18-carat yellow gold, adding a refined touch to the overall aesthetic.

The watch remains in exceptional condition, showcasing a sharply defined case with pronounced chamfers. Despite its 34.5 mm case size, it wears closer to 36 mm, making it an ideal fit for both smaller and larger wrists. The bracelet is generously sized and comfortably accommodates wrists over 7 inches.

Accompanying the watch is an impressive set of well-preserved documentation, including the original bill of sale, warranty cards, receipts, and service records from the renowned jeweller Wempe.

The watch has been serviced with our in-house watchmaker and is currently keeping excellent time.
